5 DAYS AGO - Aston Villa's newest signing, Jores Okore comes to Birmingham as a player with whom many (most?) fans are unfamiliar. The 20-year-old Danish defender has been a key part of FC Nordsjaelland's strong run in the Danish Superliga the past few years.
Last season, Nordsjaelland played Chelsea in the Champion's League group stages, and Okore was reportedly headed to the London club in January, but rejected the deal because he wanted more playing time than he would get. Since he has seen the Dane play and had to assess the value of adding him to Chelsea, I decided to ask Graham MacAree, the editor of SB Nation's Chelsea blog We Ain't Got No History, what he thought of our newest signing. Here's what he wrote:

Since joining the Villa as part of the deal that saw James Milner moving to Manchester City, and had his debut on the day his new side fell 6-0 to Newcastle. Such an inauspicious beginning would turn out to be quite indicative of future events. Ireland showed glimpses of the talent that saw him named City's Player of the Season in 2009, but despite being named Aston Villa Fans' Player of the Season at the end of the dreary year of 2012, Ireland just never quite cut it.

In his 37 appearances (30 starts) for Groningen in 2012-13, Bacuna scored five goals.

5 DAYS AGO - Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Danish defender Jores Okore from Danish Superliga side FC Nordsjaelland. The 20-year-old put pen to a four-year contract that will keep him with Villa through the 2016-17 season after he passed a medical at Bodymoor Heath today.
It's sort of delightful to read what Okore has to say, since he's already taken to loving Aston Villa. "This is the right club for me," he said, "I feel it straight away." Both Okore and Paul Lambert think that the new signing can have an immediate impact with the club. Lambert also views the signing as one that should bring up the competition level within the club. "There's a great opportunity for him here," the manager said, "and the competition for places is something that's really important. You want to try to have that throughout the team."
Apparently the plan is for Aston Villa to actually have some depth for seemingly the first time in ages. And given Lambert's strategy, that makes a lot of sense. He's Collapse
